So I heard you're selling the store...

All About the Journey

We have been on quite the journey!  It is rooted in faith, deeply fortified with trust, and blooming in glorifying Him!  He brought us here with purpose and a plan.  As we were deeply invested in saving a building, He was deeply invested in saving us.  There have been many ups and downs, good days and bad, love and hate, but through it all we have grown closer as a family, as husband and wife, and in our relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

This place is amazing because it is centered around Him.  We have had so much support and love from folks walking through the front door.  As people have come in and shared their stories, they have also asked about ours, allowing us to share so much of His good works!  We have always strived for these folks to feel as though they have come over for dinner, welcomed into our dining room, as friends coming to visit, and share a meal.  They have shared pictures and signs and coffee mugs with us.  We have become part curators of these pieces and caretakers of the building.  And through this, He has provided countless opportunities for us to share our faith and our struggles, all while building up the local community around us.  We have an amazing God!

He brought us here to rekindle something in this little hamlet of a town.  It started with saving the post office so Venango would keep it's zip code, hence why it is prominently displayed on the front of the building.  That momentum  has continued on in seeing our neighbors institute countless improvements to  properties all over town. From the French Creek Music Fest and supporting the local volunteer Fire Department, to working with the Methodist church, and holding multiple baptisms right here in French Creek, the initial spark has only grown.  And now there is a substantial park project in the works that will help Venango to support and host all kinds of local activities.  We feel positive that things will keep moving forward, and are blessed to be part of it all.

For the store, now that the heavy lifting is behind us, and this "destination spot" is a reality (intact with seafood fests, dinner theater, the French Creek Music Fest, the Sandbar, the Loft, catering opportunities, Breakfast with Jesus, and of course the restaurant), we feel strongly that He is leading us to the next season in our journey.  He is nudging us to sell the store.  After all, this place is His, not ours.  He has a vision, a plan for the next steps of the Venango General Store and the next steps for our family.

So, no worries, as long as He is the tour guide, the journey is going to be great!  I have no doubt He will provide for both.  The store will live on, being stewarded by someone new, and we will move on to new work for Him.

In the meantime, we will continue to operate the store and share our faith.  We hope to be open through the summer, enjoying the amazing weather, cooking some great food, and listening to incredible local musical talents.  Please come and join us as you are able; we'll save a seat for you at the table!

If you feel led to be a part of the next piece of the journey for the store, and have interest in taking the reins of stewardship, reach out to us using this link and we will be in touch.  We trust that He will continue to guide us, and make our path clear as we move on.  We appreciate you, and all the support in the process.

We have put together a Q&A section below to help answer some of your questions.  Please feel free to use the chat feature if you have additional questions so we can continue to add to this section.

Yes, we plan to stay open while we are waiting for the next owner.

We will definitely stay open Friday and Saturday, but we may limit Thursdays. Sunday May 1st will be our last Sunday serving regular menu 9-2.  Beginning May 8th we will not be serving on Sundays, we will however have Breakfast with Jesus on certain Sundays and provide the buffet with that at 11am.  We haven't quite decided everything yet.  Stay tuned to the hours button on the home page.

Yes, we will continue to have Breakfast with Jesus on designated Sundays including the buffet.  Check the events page for dates.  We will not be open to serve the menu on those days.

Yes, we do plan to open the meadow, weather permitting this summer.  Watch the homepage for location information every weekend.

Yes, we plan to have music throughout.  If you are part of our musical family and have available Fri/Sat dates, please let us know so we can fill out the calendar.

Similar to catering events, we are currently not selling any more gift cards.  We do not want patrons to receive one and have limited time to use it.

Yes!  Until we have sold the business, any gift cards or certificates sold prior to this point will still be honored.  So, plan to come visit!

Yes, we would like to have at least one more seafood fest, maybe two over the summer.  Check the events page for dates.

Unfortunately we will not be taking on any catering jobs moving forward.  We don't want to promise anything we may not be able to fulfill.

Yes, we have something in the works, stay tuned for details.  But I can say it will probably be in July and so much fun!

Unfortunately, we are not planning to host the music fest in 2022.

We are not sure how long we will continue to have the pantry, so we are not sure what to answer.  If anyone would be interested in taking it over, let us know.  Rest assured any donations made in the meantime will be passed along to another pantry or food bank, when we are no longer able to provide this service.

Unfortunately not at this time., but we appreciate your thoughtfulness!

We currently live above the store, so yes, but we have no intention of leaving NW PA.  That being said, we are on the journey, and He is the tour guide...

No, we haven't really considered Oregon in our plans moving forward, but thanks for the suggestion.

so many memories, so much fun...
